Premier League on Betfair: Maximum men Liverpool 2.9 for title

Liverpool maintained their 100% winning start to the season on Saturday, but with Chelsea dropping points Manchester City are now hot on their heels. Mike Norman updates the latest Premier League odds…

“The Reds have been matched at a high of [8.0] to win the title but their perfect start to the season has seen their odds shorten game-by-game, and they are now firmly considered as Manchester City’s main challengers.”

Liverpool are now trading at just [2.9] in the Premier League Winner market – the shortest price they’ve been so far – after making it six wins out of six with a 3-0 victory over Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp‘s men – who have now made their best start ever to a Premier League season – were strongly fancied to get the better of the Saints at Anfield and they duly obliged, effectively sealing the point with three first half goals, including a tap-in for Mo Salah.

City thrash Cardiff but Chelsea held

Man City themselves once again proved their title credentials with a thumping 5-0 away win at Cardiff, immediately putting behind them their disappointing midweek home loss to Lyon in the Champions League.

Sergio Aguero marked his 300th appearance for the Citizens with the opening goal before strikes from Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan, and two from £60m summer signing Riyad Mahrez, sealed the emphatic win.

Pep Guardiola’s men remain two points behind Liverpool in the table but they still trade as [1.8] favourites to defend their crown.

Chelsea are level on points with Man City but they are now out to [16.0] in the Winner market after they could manage just a 0-0 draw at West Ham on Sunday afternoon, the Blues blowing their chance to match Liverpool’s 100% winning-start to the season.

Spurs back on track

After three straight defeats Tottenham got back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory away to Brighton, though the news wasn’t so good for another of the ‘big six’ as Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw at home to newly-promoted Wolves.

Spurs had a Harry Kane penalty and a second-half goal from Erik Lamela to thank for their win, which was slightly more comfortably than the final scoreline suggests.

United however failed to hang onto their first-half lead given to them by summer signing Fred when Joao Moutinho scored a superb equaliser early in the second half.

The Red Devils are sixth in the table, one place and two points behind Spurs who are slightly more fancied in the Top 4 Finish market at [1.8]; United can be backed at [2.3].

Return to form for Clarets

At the other end of the table Burnley recorded their first league win of the season by thrashing in-form Bournemouth at Turf Moor, the result moving Sean Dyche’s men up to 16th, though at [3.2] to back in the Relegation market they are still one of the three most-fancied teams to go down.

It’s perhaps no surprise to see the only three clubs without a league win this term occupying the bottom three places in the table, with Cardiff, Huddersfield and Newcastle trading at [1.35], [1.43], and [4.5] respectively to go down.
