The Daily Acca: Goals at both ends in Madrid match

Paul Robinson is focusing on France and Spain this evening as he takes in two games from Ligue One and another from the Copa del Rey. Here are his selections:

Rennes to pick up another away win

Bet 1: Back Rennes @ 13/8 – KO 18:00 GMT

The selection are seventh in the table, but they do have a game in hand over a couple of teams above them. They haven’t been beaten inside of 90 minutes since the start of December – in any competition – and they won at Nantes on Sunday.

Tonight they travel to bottom of the table Guingamp, and while the hosts have shown some improved form of late, that was mainly in cup competitions.

They lost 1-0 on this ground on Saturday and it’s six defeats from eight in the league. They are yet to record a win on home soil this term – losing six and drawing three.

Marseille’s misery to continue

Bet 2: Back Saint-Etienne @ 6/4 – KO 20:00 GMT

Marseille’s winless run was extended at the weekend as they were held at home by a struggling, Monaco, and we have to go back to November 25th for the last victory of any description.

A trip to the fourth placed, Saint-Etienne, isn’t exactly what they would have wanted, with the hosts having recorded three straight wins to nil in all competitions.

Jean-Louis Gasset’s side are yet to lose on this ground this season – winning seven and drawing two. It’s also worthwhile noting that they kept clean sheets in five of those nine fixtures.

Expect goals at Leganes

Bet 3: Back BTTS in Leganes v Real Madrid @ 20/23 – KO 20:30 GMT

This is a last 16 Spanish cup tie, with Real Madrid holding a 3-0 lead from the first leg at the Bernabeu.

Even though Madrid aren’t in the best form, I really can’t seem them blowing that kind of advantage, however I do think that they will concede.

Their opponents aren’t a poor side – not by any stretch. They are mid-table in La Liga, and they won on Saturday. There is always the danger that the manager will deem the tie already lost, and play a weakened XI, but they don’t play again until Sunday, so I’m hoping that isn’t the case.

Both teams to score backers would have collected in four of their last six on this ground, while the same can be said for four of Real’s last six in all competitions.
