Defender Zac Anderson has linked up again with his former coach Graham Arnold, after joining Sydney FC.
The 24-year-old has signed a one-year deal with the Sky Blues following his release by Central Coast Mariners.
Anderson won the A-League championship under Arnold in 2012-13, making 23 appearances that season and being on the bench in their Grand Final win over Western Sydney Wanderers.
The former Australia U-23 international was let go by the Mariners 10 weeks ago as new coach Tony Walmsley overhauled his squad.
It’s a great move for me and I’m looking forward to working again with Arnie.
Having spent the first three years of his A-League career with Gold Coast United, he clocked up 67 games over three seasons at Central Coast.
He said: “It’s a great move for me and I’m looking forward to working again with Arnie. Sydney FC has a fantastic support and are one of the A-League’s biggest clubs; it’s a huge honour to be signing for them.”
Anderson said he was hopeful the Sky Blues, who lost last season’s Grand Final to Melbourne Victory, would be challenging for silverware again in 2015-16.
Sydney FC are 5.00 to win the Grand Final.
Arnold has made the Queensland-born central defender his fourth off-season capture, having already signed Riley Woodcock from Perth Glory, Andrew Hoole from Newcastle Jets and free agent Brandon O’Neill.
“Zac has a lot of A-League and Asian Champions League experience and will serve us very well this season,” said the coach.
“Obviously I’ve worked with him before and I know the quality he has. He will give us great depth and competition for places, and at 24 he is at a great age as well.”
The Sky Blues are 5.00 to win the FFA Cup.
