Sydney FC midfielder Terry Antonis says while he still holds ambitions to play overseas, his focus is firmly on winning silverware with the Sky Blues.

The Australia international scored the winner on Saturday as his side edged the Sydney derby at Pirtek Stadium 4-3 against Western Sydney Wanderers.

He came off the bench to shoot down Wanderers’ bid to stage a remarkable recovery, with Tony Popovic’s side having trailed 3-0 only to draw level in the second half.

Antonis nearly joined Serie A side Parma two years ago in a $300,000 deal, the transfer falling through after he suffered a long-term quadriceps injury.

He is attracting renewed interest from Italian clubs as well as teams in Belgium and Holland. However it’s believed Sydney, who are 6.00 to win the Grand Final, would not entertain a bid of less than $800,000 now.

Antonis signed a new two-year extension with the club last November that will keep him at Moore Park until the end of the 2016-17 season.

He said: “I am really happy at Sydney, it’s the club that has always done the right thing by me and helped me develop and learn.”

Antonis said coach Graham Arnold had taught him a lot of new aspects to his game, as well as improving the team to the point where they can challenge for the premiership.

The Sky Blues are only four points behind leaders Perth Glory, having lost just three of their 19 games.

The 21-year-old said: “I’m not looking too far ahead but of course every player wants to test themselves at the highest level they can reach and I am no different.

“There was of course the interest from Italy in the past and if anything cropped up again then you’d have to look at it, but it’s not something I am giving any real thought to right now. We have a lot to play for this season and I want to be a big part of that.”

Sydney FC are 1.72 to win their next game against Newcastle Jets, who are 4.50 with the draw 3.75.
