Socceroos defender Ivan Franjic is back in the A-League, after signing a three-year deal with Melbourne City.
Franjic aims to put a frustrating year behind him and win another title with John van ‘t Schip’s side, who are 9.00 to win the Grand Final outright in 2015/16..
He left Brisbane Roar after they won the double in 2013/14 to sign for Torpedo Moscow, but things didn’t work out in the Russian capital for the 27-year-old. Franjic only played four games for Torpedo and left the club two years early in April due to unpaid wages.
When we became aware Ivan was available, we were keen to bring him in to strengthen our squad.

The Russian Premier League side blocked City’s bid to sign him on a loan deal during January’s transfer window, but van ‘t Schip remained keen to recruit him.
“When we became aware Ivan was available, we were keen to bring him in to strengthen our squad,” said the City coach. “Followers of the A-League and Socceroos know of Ivan’s quality and ability, so to bring him in for next season is positive.”
Franjic, who has played 19 times for Australia, was in Ange Postecoglou’s starting side for the opening game of last year’s World Cup against Chile.
He suffered a hamstring strain in that match that put him out for the rest of the tournament, but he played a key part in the Socceroos’ Asian Cup win on home soil at the start of this year.
Postecoglou has named him in the national squad for this month’s 2018 World Cup qualifier against Kyrgyzstan.
“Melbourne City are an ambitious club and they want success,” said Franjic. “These are the clubs I want to be at, that want to go out and win titles and that was a major reason for me coming here.”
Meanwhile, Australia are 15.00 to win their opening match at the Women’s World Cup against the USA, who are 1.12 with the draw 9.00.
