Melbourne Victory have re-signed defender Daniel Georgievski for another two years, after improving their offer to the Macedonia international.

Georgievski played in 21 of Victory’s 29 league games last season, helping them win the premiership-championship double.

The team is exceptionally well led by Kevin and the club has a lot of dedicated people committed to achieving further success.

He signed a one-season deal when he joined from Romanian side Steaua Bucuresti on the eve of the campaign and the 27-year-old went public earlier this month with his dissatisfaction over the new terms he had been offered by the club, and said he was quite prepared to walk away unless they put more money on the table.

Coach Kevin Muscat said he was delighted Georgievski had recommitted for two more years, saying it was a great outcome for the club, who are 3.75 to win the A-League Grand Final.

He said the defender, who has played 22 times for his country, had made a significant contribution to Victory’s successful season.

“He joins a list of players who have committed to Melbourne Victory for the future and that says a great deal about our football club and the shared vision of these players for more success,” added Muscat.

Georgievski said: “I have enjoyed every minute of my time at Melbourne Victory so far and I was very keen to re-sign so I’m thrilled to be staying for another two seasons.

“The team is exceptionally well led by Kevin and the club has a lot of dedicated people committed to achieving further success so I’m looking forward to what the future holds at this great club.”

He becomes the seventh player to have signed a contract extension with Victory since the start of last season, following the example of the likes of Fahid Ben Khalfallah, Matthieu Delpierre and Jason Geria.

Meanwhile, Adelaide City, who reached the quarter-finals of last year’s competition, are 2.25 to win Sunday’s FFA Cup tie against Croydon Kings, who are 2.50, with the draw 3.75.
