He’s received plenty of offers from European clubs, but A-League top scorer Marc Janko says he will give Sydney FC first refusal on signing him for next season.

The Austrian striker joined the Sky Blues on a one-year deal last July after being released by Turkish side Trabzonspor.

I always said and I always told my agent that the first party to talk to will always be Sydney FC.

The 31-year-old had struggled for goals for the first time in his career while with Trabzonspor, netting just four times in 30 appearances.

But the man who made his name with 75 goals in 107 games for Red Bull Salzburg, has rediscovered his form with Graham Arnold’s side with 13 in 17 games this season.

Arnold says he wants to keep Janko at the club for a second season, and the marquee player is keen to discuss terms.
“They have showed some interest in extending my contract so I think talks will start soon and I’m curious to see if we could sign an extension but I will be keen to stay,” said Janko.

“I was well aware when I signed a contract that after one year I might do something else and so was the club and now I’ve finally found my form.

“I always said and I always told my agent that the first party to talk to will always be Sydney FC to see what their plans are.”

The Sky Blues are reaping the benefits of Janko’s goalscoring form and the Austrian international will claim a record if he scores in Sunday’s home match with defending champions Brisbane Roar.

When he scored the only goal in their 1-0 win over Newcastle Jets last weekend, he equalled the previous league mark of netting in six consecutive games.

Another goal against the Roar will take him past the record set by Besart Berisha with Brisbane in 2012.

Sydney FC are 2.00 to beat Brisbane, who are 3.60 with the draw 3.50.
