Wellington Phoenix began their pre-season campaign with a 2-1 win over Fiji, despite seeing their striker Roy Krishna score against them.
Both teams had a claim over the 27-year-old, who has scored 16 goals in 24 matches for Fiji and was Phoenix’s second-top scorer with nine last season.
He has been loaned back to his international side for Wellington’s two-match tour of the country and broke the deadlock midway through the first half.
Krishna went through one-on-one with keeper Glen Moss and netted from a rebound after his first shot was blocked.
The visitors drew level when Dutchman Roly Bonevacia tucked the ball past the advancing Akuila Mateisuva, after some nice interplay with Kwabena Appiah.
Moss needed to be at his best to stop Osea Vakatalesau from restoring Fiji’s advantage.
Tom Doyle scored the winner, capping an excellent performance at ANZ Stadium by smashing his shot past Mateisuva.
The teams will meet in the second game of the tour in Ba on Tuesday.
Wellington are 11.00 to win the Grand Final.
Meanwhile, a repeat of last year’s A-League Grand Final will open the new season in October.
Western Sydney Wanderers will host Brisbane Roar, who beat them in the 2014 decider, to kick off round one on 8th October.
Meanwhile, Al-Hilal, who Wanderers beat to win the Asian Champions Final last December, are 4.00 to win the 2015 competition.
The 11th staging of the A-League will see last season’s premiers and champions Melbourne Victory travel to traditional rivals Adelaide United the following night.
The second and third rounds will feature Sydney and Melbourne derbies, while a revamp to the competition will mean no team faces more than two consecutive away games.
The FFA Cup final will be played on 7th November, while the Grand Final is scheduled for 1st May.
