Brisbane Roar coach John Aloisi feels his club have made a key signing by attracting striker Jamie Maclaren.

The 21-year-old has been pursued by a number of A-League teams since leaving Perth Glory last month. He has signed a two-year deal with the 2013-14 double winners, as they rebuild under new coach Aloisi.

Maclaren scored 10 goals in 23 games last season for the Glory but walked away at the end of the campaign after Perth missed out on the Finals Series through suspension.

A former Scotland U-19 player, he has scored six goals in five appearances for Australia at U-23 level since his debut last year. Maclaren is the first player signed by Aloisi since he was appointed six weeks ago.

He is an ideal fit for the attacking way I want the Roar to play this season and I can’t wait to see him on the field in our orange.

The coach, whose team are 8.00 to win the Grand Final, said: “Jamie is one of the most promising young strikers in Australia at the moment. He is a genuine goal scorer who is leading the way in the qualifying campaign for the Rio Olympics.

“He is an ideal fit for the attacking way I want the Roar to play this season and I can’t wait to see him on the field in our orange.”

The Roar, who only qualified for last season’s finals due to Perth’s ban for breaching the league’s salary cap, have seen four players depart since then including on-loan Adam Sarota who has returned to FC Utrecht.

Maclaren said he was delighted to sign up with Brisbane. “The Roar have been a strong side for many years now and very successful,” he added. “For me to join a club with such a great history and a terrific bunch of players, I just can’t wait to get started.”

Brisbane are 2.75 to win their first game of the season against Western Sydney, who are 2.37 with the draw 3.25.
