Melbourne Victory coach Kevin Muscat is confident Tunisian star Fahid Ben Khalfallah will sign a new deal with the club.
The 32-year-old set up all three goals as Victory beat Western Sydney Wanderers 3-0 at Pirtek Stadium to claim top spot in the A-League.
Without doubt, he’s someone we want to keep at the football club.
He has been in impressive form since signing on a one-season deal from French club Troyes last September.
The 14-cap Tunisian international is on the wish list of a number of other A-League clubs, but Muscat expects him to re-sign for next season.
“I’m very confident. There’s no two ways about it – he’s well-liked by our fans; he’s good to have in the change rooms,” said the coach.
“The football club wants to keep him, I want to keep him and he wants to stay so all the ingredients are there for us to do a deal so hopefully we can.”
Muscat said Ben Khalfallah was enjoying the way Victory were playing and the team were making sure he got a lot of the ball.
He added: “Without doubt, he’s someone we want to keep at the football club. Personally, I’ve got a very good relationship with him and, hopefully, we can put it to bed soon.”
Victory are 2.75 to win their next match against Adelaide United, who are 2.30 with the draw 3.40.
Ben Khalfallah set up two goals for striker Besart Berisha, who had gone five games without scoring.
The former Brisbane Roar star now has 11 goals for the season, the fourth successive campaign in which he has reached double figures.
Berisha has found the net in five of his last six games against Western Sydney, who have now lost four in a row to Victory.
