Defender Matthew Spiranovic could be playing his last A-League game for Western Sydney Wanderers when they host Perth Glory in their finale on Saturday.
The Socceroos central defender is under contract for another year with Tony Popovic’s side, but the indications are that Wanderers will look to cash in on the 26-year-old.
If there’s a chance of a move where everyone can benefit, that might be something to consider.
Spiranovic is a key asset for Western Sydney, with whom he won the Asian Champions League last December and scored in their Grand Final defeat to Brisbane Roar last season.
His presence at the heart of the defence has not been enough to prevent Popovic’s side enduring a nightmare A-League campaign, though.
And unless they can pull off a major shock later this month to advance to the knock-out phase of the ACL, Wanderers’ Group H finale in China against Guangzhou Evergrande could be his final appearance for the club.
Western Sydney are 2.10 to beat Perth, who are 3.30, with the draw 3.50.
Spiranovic said: “I’ve got another year on my contract here and I’m certainly committed to that, but if there’s a chance of a move where everyone can benefit, that might be something to consider.
“We’ll see what will happen at the end of the year and I’ll sit with my manager to discuss what options there might be.”
The 26-cap Socceroo has had spells in Europe and Asia, playing for FC Nurnberg in Germany at the start of his career and arriving at Wanderers after stints with Urawa Red Diamonds and Al-Arabi.
He added: “I’m 27 next year and I know if I’m going to play abroad again, that’s probably the right time to do it. I’ve always said I want to play at the top level one more time, that I want to test myself against the best players.”
