Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool are high-profile visitors to Suncorp Stadium.

John Aloisi has urged his Brisbane Roar side not to be overawed when they take on Liverpool in Friday’s friendly at Suncorp Stadium.

The Roar have been back in training for a couple of weeks and were boosted last week by the arrival of Australia U-23 international Jamie Maclaren after his move from Perth Glory.

I want them to go out there and put on a performance that we’ve come to expect of Brisbane Roar.

Brisbane, though, have lost five players since the end of last season and Aloisi is not expecting his side to be the finished article in their first pre-season match.

The former Socceroo, who was appointed in late May for his second stint as an A-League boss – he previously coached Melbourne Heart – will lead his team for the first time against the Reds.

Brendan Rodgers’ side, who are 1.36 to win the game, arrive after having beaten the Thai All Stars 4-0 in their first pre-season tour match.

Aloisi doesn’t want the occasion to get to his team, saying: “I want them to enjoy it and play without fear; I want them to go out there and put on a performance that we’ve come to expect of Brisbane Roar.”

The coach added: “We’ve started practising stuff in the past two weeks, I want them to try and take that into the game. If there are mistakes, no problem, just play our game and play the way we want to play this season.”

The match will be a valuable warm-up for the Roar’s first competitive game of the season when they take on Western Sydney Wanderers in the FFA Cup on 11th August.

Jamie Young will be between the sticks for Brisbane, with Michael Theo still recovering from surgery, and is looking forward to renewing acquaintances with Rodgers – the pair know each other from their time at Reading.

Young said: “Obviously it’s a big occasion but you have to remember that this is a game of football and nothing changes – there are two teams trying to get the ball into the net so it’s really important to focus on that.”

Brisbane are 21.00 to beat Liverpool 1-0 and 4.75 to earn a draw.
