Former Socceroo Michael Zullo is in the frame to make his Melbourne City debut in Saturday’s clash with Manchester City.
The 26-year-old has completed a move to City after passing a medical, signing a one-year deal with John van ‘t Schip’s side.
Zullo has become the second new signing in as many days, following Northern Ireland international Aaron Hughes to the club.
The five-cap Socceroo returns to the A-League for a third spell following his departure from FC Utrecht in May.
He is motivated for all the right reasons.
John van ‘t Schip
He had a loan stint with Adelaide United in 2013-14, having played 53 games for Brisbane Roar at the start of his career before being signed along with teammates Thomas Oar and Adam Sarota in a $1.8 million deal by Utrecht in 2010.
It is a chance for Zullo to get his career back on track, having missed the whole of last season in Holland after knee reconstruction surgery.
Melbourne City are 9.00 to win the Grand Final.
Van ‘t Schip said: “We know Michael’s potential; he has spent time with a big club in Holland and with the Socceroos so we expect him to be an important member of the squad. He is motivated for all the right reasons.”
Zullo, who can play anywhere on the left side of the pitch, said: “I think Melbourne City has the best setup in Australia right now and think the club’s goals and my goals align pretty well.”
City are reported to be considering upgrading last year’s player of the season Aaron Mooy to an Australian marquee spot for the new campaign. The club, who are 7.00 to win the FFA Cup, have a spot available after striker Josh Kennedy’s retirement.
