Hull City manager Steve Bruce has warned that he may resign if he is unable to build a squad that is good enough to challenge for promotion this season.
Since their relegation from the Premier League was confirmed in May, the Tigers have not signed any new players while the likes of Maynor Figueroa, Steve Harper, Paul McShane, Stephen Quinn, Liam Rosenior, Yannick Sagbo and Tom Ince have all left the club.
Bruce had only 14 senior players available for the recent pre-season friendly against North Ferriby United, but knows that even more players will have to leave the KC Stadium before he can add to his squad.
But I still believe I will be given a chance to rebuild this side.
“I’m hoping that we can all sit down and navigate a plan to get us back to where we all want to be,” said Bruce.
“If that’s the case then I’ll be perfectly happy. If not, then I’ll ask the question of exactly what they want to do. If I don’t think we have a chance of getting back up I would consider my position.
“But I still believe I will be given a chance to rebuild this side. We have three weeks and a lot can be done in three weeks. I’m confident this meeting will be beneficial to everyone.”
Robbie Brady continues to be linked with a transfer to Norwich City, 2.10 to be relegated from the Premier League this season, while Dame N’Doye is being linked with a move to Besiktas.
“I’ll tell no lies, it’s been the most difficult summer because of the situation we find ourselves in,” Bruce added.
“There’s been a black cloud hanging over the club and we can’t get rid of it. Yes, it’s a difficult time but we can still look forward to mounting a challenge in the Championship and look forward to better times.”
Hull are 4.33 to be promoted from the Championship this season and 1.61 to beat Huddersfield Town on the opening weekend of the campaign.
