Aitor Karanka is convinced that he will eventually guide Middlesbrough back to the Premier League.
Boro were second-best throughout Monday’s Championship play-off final against Norwich City, a team they had completed the double over earlier in the season, eventually losing 2-0.
Karanka’s side never recovered from conceding two goals in the opening 15 minutes and were unable to put any concerted pressure on a well-drilled Canaries defence.
I am looking forward to next season already.
However, Karanka remains optimistic about the future, saying: “I arrived here 18 months ago and the team was two points above the relegation position and we had around 14,000 people at the Riverside.
“On Monday, we showed everybody that Middlesbrough is a Premier League club and my job is to get this club into the Premier League again.
“I am looking forward to next season already. I have one more year on my contract and, when I came here, my objective was to put Middlesbrough back in the Premier League.”
Middlesbrough are 4.50 to be promoted from the Championship next season, while Derby County can be backed at 5.00 to go up and Brentford at 7.00.
Meanwhile, Patrick Bamford has not ruled out the possibility of returning to Middlesbrough in the future after his season-long loan switch from Chelsea ended with the Wembley loss.
