Wigan Athletic boss Malky Mackay is desperate to sign a new striker as he attempts to stop the Latics sliding into League One.
Mackay is keen to bring in a new loan forward before Saturday’s crunch relegation six-pointer at relegation rivals Rotherham United, which Wigan can be backed at 8.00 to win 1-0.
The 2013 FA Cup winners looked toothless in attack during Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to Leeds United and Leon Clarke, who is on loan from Wolves, is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury and is not expected to have recovered in time to face the Millers.
Former Cardiff City boss Mackay said: “We’ve made four phone calls on four players, but at the moment those players are not being let out. It was always going to be a difficult situation in terms of the January market and beyond into the loan market.
“Right now there seems to be a real lack of willingness for clubs to do that – and that’s fair play. But it’s certainly affecting us at the moment.
“Leon Clarke tweaked his hamstring last Wednesday night and that was a disappointment for us because he’s been terrific. He’ll be scanned but it’ll be touch and go for Saturday.
“But it’s obviously a big blow because he’s come in and made a difference up front for us.”
Wigan are 1.20 to be relegated from the Championship this season, while Millwall are 1.083 to go down and Rotherham United 7.00.
