Belgium international Toby Alderweireld is interested in making his loan switch from Atletico Madrid to Southampton permanent this summer.

The 26-year-old has enjoyed his season in the Premier League and is set to make his last home appearance of the campaign for Saints on Saturday against Aston Villa.

Atletico have hinted that they are keen for Alderweireld to return to the Spanish capital although the player himself is unsure what the future holds for him.

I’m happy here and there is an opportunity that I will stay here.

He said of his loan move to St Mary’s: “It was the best decision I could ever make, I think. I get the confidence, it was a very good team.

“The squad is fantastic, on the pitch and off the pitch. I’m very happy here, my life is good here. Of course, you have to be a little bit lucky, but I think a lot of people said ‘Yeah, well, Southampton?’ but I think this season proved enough.

“I don’t feel it is my last game, or my last home game, I don’t feel like this, because I’m happy here and there is an opportunity that I will stay here, so I don’t feel it’s the last game.”

Southampton, 3.25 to finish in the top six this season, can be backed at 2.25 to keep a clean sheet against Villa, who are 67.00 to be relegated this term.
