Toby Alderweireld says he is unsure whether Chelsea are interested in him or not ahead of him discussing his future with Atletico Madrid.
The defender, currently on international duty with Belgium, was sent out to Southampton on loan last season by Atletico having struggled to break into the first-team following his move from Ajax in 2013.
The 26-year-old impressed while at St Mary’s and is now being linked with a permanent switch to the Saints, while Chelsea are also believed to be keen on a deal.
Alderweireld says he is unsure where he will be playing his club football next season and is putting any decision on hold until he has spoken to Atletico next week.
He told Sky Sports News: “I will go back to Spain next week and we will talk.
“We will see what happens. I hope a decision will be made quickly, otherwise it will be all summer.
“I don’t know if Chelsea are interested but I have read a little bit in the press. Let’s see what comes up and I will make a decision. We will see what clubs come in.”
Alderweireld formed a solid central defensive partnership with Jose Fonte will at Southampton, who are 3.25 to finish in the Premier League’s top six.
Having helped the Saints qualify for the Europa League, the versatile defender is now focused on aiding Belgium in their Euro 2016 qualification campaign.
The Belgians face Wales on Friday and are 1.72 to win the game, with the Welsh 4.75 and the draw 3.60.
