Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that Fabian Delph picked up a hamstring problem during the 4-1 pre-season defeat to Real Madrid.
Delph only completed his transfer from Aston Villa to City earlier this month but had to leave the pitch on a stretcher midway through the first half after tangling with Real’s former Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric.
Pellegrini faces an anxious wait to see how serious the injury is, but there are real fears that the £8million signing will be forced to sit out City’s opening Premier League match against West Brom at The Hawthorns, which they can be backed at 13.00 to win 3-0.
We will have a more clear diagnostic from the doctor on Saturday.
“Unfortunately it looks like Fabian has a problem with his hamstring – we thought it would be useful for him to play 45 minutes but he got the injury so it’s not the best news,” said Pellegrini.
“We will have a more clear diagnostic from the doctor on Saturday.”
Goals by Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and Pepe gave Real a 3-0 lead before Yaya Toure pulled a goal back from the penalty spot for last season’s Premier League runners-up. City are available at 3.75 to win the Premier League title outright in 2015/16.
Denis Cheryshev scored a fourth goal for Real, who are 2.62 to be La Liga champions this season.
