Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta has revealed he is not far away from penning a new deal with the north London club.
The Spansh playmaker is currently out of action with an ankle injury and is set to miss Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final with Reading at Wembley.
However Arteta is on the verge of agreeing a new deal at the Emirates and believes it won’t take long to get a contract over the line.
He was quoted by Sky Sports, saying: “My only aim is to get back fit and try to perform on the pitch.
“As long as I do that I am sure that I will continue with this club, with the relationship I have with the club and the respect I have from everybody here.
“If I don’t do that then I am not going to be here because I don’t want to be somewhere where I cannot perform at my best and give what I think I can give.
“In May, when everything is fine, we will sit down and talk and it will take five minutes.”
Meanwhile Reading can be backed at 13.00 to win the semi-final in 90 minutes and are 29.00 to triumph by a 1-0 scoreline in normal time, while they are 7.00 to reach the FA Cup final for the first time in their history.
