Aston Villa will allow Christian Benteke to leave if the club’s valuation of the Belgium striker is met, according to manager Tim Sherwood.
The 24-year-old has found his form again under Sherwood and has scored 10 Premier League goals in 25 games this season to mean he has hit double figures in his three seasons so far at Villa Park.
“If a player doesn’t want to play for the club anymore and the club he wants to go to meet the valuation then I think it’s always best to let them go.”
Reports have suggested he could be target of a big-money approach from Liverpool in the summer but Sherwood said he was convinced not too many of Villa’s top-flight rivals could afford his player.
“It would have to be a lot of money for anyone to take him from us,” Sherwood told reporters.
“He’d be too expensive for a great deal of clubs in the Premier League.”
Benteke has hit form since Sherwood was brought in as the permanent replacement for Paul Lambert in February, scoring 10 times in 13 matches for club and country.
The former Genk and Standard Liege targetman recently hit a hat-trick against QPR and scored in a 2-1 win against Liverpool in the FA Cup to book Villa a place in the final of the famous old cup competition against Arsenal.
Sherwood added: “If a player doesn’t want to play for the club anymore and the club he wants to go to meet the valuation then I think it’s always best to let them go.
“It would be about the market value of what’s out there but I have no intention of selling Christian.”
Aston Villa are currently priced 6.00 in the FA Cup final match betting and the draw outcome is quoted 4.00. Arsenal are available to back at 1.53.
