Wilfried Bony has pleaded with Yaya Toure to stay at Manchester City amid rumours that the 32-year-old could be heading to Inter Milan this summer.
The midfielder has spent the last five seasons with City but has been criticised for some below-par displays this term, particularly since Ivory Coast won the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.
Toure has two years left on his contract, but seems keen to be reunited with the former City boss Roberto Mancini, who is currently at Inter.
It’s been three years where there’s been big tournaments – World Cup, African Cup.
Fellow Ivorian Bony, who only moved to City from Swansea City in January, hopes Toure does remain with Manuel Pellegrini’s side and thinks the hard-working midfielder may be suffering a dip in form because of his heavy workload in the last three years.
Bony said: “You can see his qualities, I don’t need to tell you about it. He knows what he can do, everybody knows. For sure everyone wants to keep him here. He’s a legend for this club and always will be.
“It’s been difficult for him. You have to remember it’s been three years where there’s been big tournaments – World Cup, African Cup.
“You need to play a lot of matches, you are playing in high temperatures, it’s not easy. Injuries can also occur in that time, the pressure and expectations are high.
“There are some things in football you can’t control, like when the tournaments come round, when you get injured. You just have to try to deal with them and help the team.”
Manchester City visit Swansea City on Sunday and are 9.50 to beat Garry Monk’s side 2-0 at the Liberty Stadium with Bony available at 2.40 to score at any time.
Meanwhile, Manchester City can be backed at 4.00 to win the 2015/16 Premier League title outright.
