Leicester City midfielder Esteban Cambiasso remains confident that Nigel Pearson’s team will secure their Premier League status this season.
The Foxes haven’t picked up a league victory since January and they are currently bottom of the table, seven points adrift of safety.
That isn’t stopping the veteran midfielder from predicting they will stay in the top flight and he says avoiding relegation with Leicester would be as good as winning a trophy.
“For me, it’s like another cup,” he told the BBC. “When you start another season you have an objective, and this is the objective for us.”
Cambiasso has plenty of experience winning major honours having won five Serie A titles and a Champions League during his time at Inter Milan.
The 34-year-old has 23 major honours on his CV during a stellar career that also saw him playing for Real Madrid and River Plate.
He says keeping Leicester afloat would be the equivalent of silverware at a bigger club.
“For me, winning a cup or winning the league with another team is the same now as having the possibility to save Leicester in the Premier League.”
Leicester are 2.25 to defeat West Ham, who are 3.40, when they meet at the Kingpower Stadium on Saturday.
There were some raised eyebrows when Pearson signed the veteran midfielder last summer but Cambiasso says he was happy to join the club when they showed a genuine appetite to bring him to England.
He is confident they have enough ability to get out of trouble.
“I think some people think for Leicester all is finished. But I’m sure, because I watch my team-mates every day, we can save Leicester and stay in the Premier League,” he added.
Leicester are currently 4.50 to stay in the Premier League this season.
