Premier League champions Chelsea have confirmed that they have signed Colombian striker Radamel Falcao on a season-long loan from French side Monaco.
The 29-year-old spent last season on loan at Manchester United, scoring a mere four goals in 29 appearances in all competitions, making only 14 starts in the English top-flight.
It hurts me that people in England think that the real Falcao is the one we saw at Manchester United.
However, Blues head coach Jose Mourinho remains a big fan of a player who scored goals almost at will with both FC Porto and Atletico Madrid, before heading to Monaco in the summer of 2013.
He told reports earlier this month: “If I can help Falcao reach his level again, I will do it.
“It hurts me that people in England think that the real Falcao is the one we saw at Manchester United.”
And he has now agreed a deal for the South American to strengthen his striking options, with veteran Didier Drogba having ended his second spell at Stamford Bridge at the end of last season.
Falcao is particularly well-known to Blues fans for having scored a hat-trick against them for Atletico in the 2012 UEFA Super Cup, played in Monaco.
He missed the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil due to a serious knee injury, but did feature at the Copa America recently, with Colombia reaching the quarter-finals before being knocked out by Argentina following a penalty shootout.
As part of the deal which sees Falcao join the Blues, 20-year-old Croatian midfielder Mario Pasalic has moved in the opposite direction to sign a season-long loan deal at Monaco.
Chelsea, who were crowned Premier League champions by eight points last season, can be backed at 2.50 to retain their title in 2015/16.
Manchester United are available at 6.00, while Manchester City are 3.75 to win a third title in five seasons.
