England right-back Nathaniel Clyne has given Southampton hope that he will remain with the club beyond the end of the current campaign.
The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with a big-money move away from the Saints in the summer, but Clyne, who is under contract until the end of next season, has cooled talk of a definite exit.
I’m happy playing for Southampton and happy to stay at Southampton as well.
He told the Daily Echo: “I’m enjoying my football for Southampton, playing week-in, week-out and it’s an up-and-coming club. So, yeah, I’m happy playing for Southampton and happy to stay at Southampton as well.
“My agent is negotiating, so I’ll just leave it with my agent and I’m just going to concentrate on playing my football.”
Clyne has been an integral member of the Saints squad who have exceeded expectations so far this season by challenging to qualify for European football next term.
They currently lie in seventh place in the Premier League table and that may be enough to secure a Europa League spot, especially if Arsenal triumph in the FA Cup final against Aston Villa.
Saints have dipped slightly in recent weeks, winning just once in their last five league games and they will be keen to get back on track next time out, when they travel to Leicester City.
The Foxes have won five of their last six game to move out of the drop zone and are 2.50 to take all three points again on Saturday, with the draw 3.30 and a Southampton victory 2.87.
