Midfielder Jack Colback accepts that Newcastle United are still involved in a relegation battle following Sunday’s meek 3-1 home defeat to Tottenham.

Newcastle have lost their last six matches and are only seven points above the bottom three with five games of the season remaining.

Colback scored Newcastle’s goal against Spurs but it was another below-par display by the home side at St James’ Park.

There’s no hiding place.

Newcastle’s next match is against Swansea City on Saturday and they are 10.00 to edge to a 2-1 victory against Garry Monk’s side.

Colback said: “There hasn’t been much sweetness for the past six games and it is a difficult period. But there’s no hiding place.

“We have been hit with a huge amount of injuries all season. We have had a settled side – a full-strength side – for five or six games in the season and it was the period we did well. When you take out important players it is going to be difficult. But again, that’s an excuse.

“If we are not careful we will get dragged into the relegation battle. It is a dangerous moment, we would be naive to think that we are out of it just yet. I think one win would do it.”

Newcastle are 51.00 to be relegated this season while Leicester City, who have won their last three matches, are 2.87 to go down.
