Crystal Palace defender Scott Dann expects his club to challenge in the top half of the Premier League table, having ignored interest from elsewhere to sign a new five-year contract.
The 28-year-old former Blackburn Rovers centre-back had been linked with a possible move away from the Eagles, but Dann says he was more than happy to stay put after talks over the future direction of the club.
I wanted to commit my future to Palace and aim for a top-eight finish this season.
Having followed Julian Speroni, Brede Hangeland, Jason Puncheon and James McArthur in signing a new deal, he told the official Palace website: “There was some interest from other clubs over the summer, so I spoke to the chairman and the manager about their plans for the future.
“After hearing what they had to say and with all the other lads signing, I knew I was at the right club, so I wanted to commit my future to Palace and aim for a top-eight finish this season.
“Yohan Cabaye was brilliant when he was over here playing for Newcastle and did the same at PSG. He’s obviously a top player and for Palace to attract a player like that, just shows where we want to be.”
Last season the Eagles finished in tenth place in the Premier League, enjoying an upturn in fortunes following the arrival of Alan Pardew as manager at the turn of the year.
Palace won six of their final ten games of the campaign to secure a top-half finish, edging out the likes of Everton, West Ham United and West Bromwich Albion.
The Londoners can be backed at 3.00 to finish in the top half of the table again next season, with Southampton 1.28 and Everton 1.28.
