Burnley manager Sean Dyche remains confident that striker Danny Ings can have a major influence on his side’s battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
Ings, who has been strongly linked with a summer move away from Turf Moor, has failed to find the net in his eight games, but still has the full backing of Dyche ahead of a crunch showdown with Leicester City in East Lancashire.
He is still getting in there and that’s the key thing.
The Foxes are currently two places and two points better off than the rock-bottom Clarets, but Dyche has no qualms about sticking with the misfiring Ings.
He told reporters: “The main thing for a striker is being in there and being in there to miss – not just to score.
“Some strikers if they’re not on form they disappear and they just can’t quite get in there or don’t end up in the box. He is still getting in there and that’s the key thing.”
Ings can be backed at 5.50 to open the scoring at Turf Moor on Saturday and is 3.20 to be first goalscorer for the home side, with the former Bournemouth frontman 2.40 to score at any time.
Meanwhile, Leicester, who have their last three league games, have a major doubt over former Clarets striker David Nugent, who is likely to miss the game due to a calf injury.
And while the focus will no doubt be fully on the pitch at Burnley, both sides will also be keeping an eye out on other important fixtures going on at the same time, with the battle to beat the drop still involving a whole host of clubs.
QPR play host to West Ham in a London derby, while Hull City head to the capital to take on Crystal Palace and Sunderland face a tough test at Stoke City.
The teatime game then sees FA Cup finalists Aston Villa face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
