Everton’s Romelu Lukaku has been forced to withdraw from the Belgium squad after picking up a hamstring injury against QPR.
The former Chelsea striker was expected to feature against Cyprus in Brussels on Saturday before a trip to Jerusalem to take on Israel next Tuesday.
However Lukaku has failed to recover from the knock he picked up against the R’s on Sunday and Belgium boss Marc Wilmot confirmed on Monday the striker would take no part in the upcoming two games.
With fellow Evertonian Kevin Mirallas also ruled out of international duty with Belgium due to a dead leg, both players now have a chance to recover before the Merseysiders’ next Premier League clash against Southampton on 4th April.
Everton are 2.60 to win, 3.20 to draw and 2.80 to lose to the Saints at Goodison Park.
Having had a hectic playing schedule of late in the Premier League and Europa League, manager Roberto Martinez will be pleased both Lukaku and Mirallas will have some time recover before the last push at the business end of the season.
