Everton boss Roberto Martinez has confirmed left-back Leighton Baines has been sent for a scan on the ankle injury suffered against Sunderland.
The England international failed to finish last weekend’s game at Goodison Park after being replaced in the second half by Luke Garbutt.
Martinez is now waiting to discover how long he could be without the 30-year-old for having sent him to a specialist.
With Everton having little left to play for this season it remains to be seen whether they will opt to take a short-term option to fixing the problem to make sure Baines is available for the final two games of the campaign.
“We’re going to find out a bit more in the next two days,” he said. “It was really, really painful in an area that has been a bit of a problem for Leighton.
“We’ll get more clarity over the next 48 hours and clearly we’ll address it once we get that information from the specialist.
“It’s a situation where we need to find out exactly what’s causing the pain.
“We want to find the solution so that Leighton can be pain free because it seems like it’s a problem that’s been developing over a couple of weeks now and we need to put it right.”
Everton are already without three players for their remaining games, with Darren Gibson, Bryan Oviedo and Tony Hibbert all missing, while it is still unclear whether Steven Pienaar will feature again this season.
Everton are 2.50 to win at Upton Park this weekend, with the Hammers 2.90 and the draw 3.30.
Despite a below-par season the Toffees could finish in the top half of the table and they are 2.87 to secure a top 10 berth, with the Hammers 1.40 to hang on to theirs.
