Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart accepts his side have let themselves down this season, but is confident that they can put things right next term.

The Citizens have lost three of their last five Premier League games to all but end their hopes of retaining their title, with Hart admitting that they have no-one to blame but themselves.

We just haven’t performed in certain moments.

He told reporters: “We are not in the place where we wanted to be – we wanted to be really challenging for the title like we’ve done in previous years. We’ve got to be honest.

“We’ve let ourselves down at key moments. This season a lot of games we’ve played well, but teams have tended to raise their game against us. It’s just how it is.

“It’s just a difficult league to win. I don’t think the champions label makes it any more difficult or any easier.

“If we could blame that, it would be the easy way out. We just haven’t performed in certain moments.”

City also struggled to make progress in the Champions League losing in the first knockout round by Barcelona, while they suffered home defeats in the FA Cup and Capital One Cup at the hands of Middlesbrough and Newcastle United respectively.

The men from Manchester got back on track on Sunday with a 2-0 home league win over West Ham, a victory which lifted them seven points clear of Liverpool in the race for the fourth and final Champions League spot.

City are just one point behind third-placed Manchester United and two adrift of Arsenal, who are second and also have a game in hand.

The Citizens are 1.05 to finish in the top four, with Liverpool 7.00 and Tottenham, who are level on points with the Reds, 51.00.
