Jordon Henderson has said it’s an “honour and a huge privilege” to be confirmed as the new Liverpool captain.
The England midfielder does have experience in the role, having deputised while his predecessor Steven Gerrard was out of the side last season.
Henderson has now officially been given the role and is hoping he can continue the work of Reds’ legend Gerrard, who has moved to LA Galaxy.
He told the club’s official website: “I’m absolutely delighted and proud. It is a great honour and a huge privilege to be named as the captain of this football club.
“When Steven wasn’t in the team last season, I tried to do the best I could when I stepped in and took the armband. Now I’ll be looking to carry that on and continue to grow as a captain.
“I’ll look to give my best all of the time, put the team firmly first and try to give them – or help them with – whatever they need from me.”
The Merseysiders get their new league campaign underway with a trip to Stoke City on Sunday 9th August, with Liverpool 2.30 to win that game, 3.25 to secure a draw and 3.75 to go on and finish in the top four.
