Jordan Henderson has praised Raheem Sterling who he hopes will eventually decide to stay at Liverpool.
Former Sunderland midfielder Henderson has urged his Reds and Liverpool team-mate to remain at Anfield and insists the winger remains a popular figure within the squad.
Sterling has been linked with a move away from Merseyside after well-publicised comments suggesting he is unhappy with the way new contract negotiations with Brendan Rodgers’ side are progressing.
For me Raheem Sterling is a fantastic player and he’s been brilliant for England, I hope he stays at Liverpool.

Henderson said: “He’s a great person and a great lad. He’s getting a lot of criticism because of the contract situation, but he’s first class as a person, all the lads love him whether it’s with England or Liverpool.
“He’s a great professional. His work ethic is fantastic. He works as hard as he can and wants to improve all the time. For me Raheem Sterling is a fantastic player and he’s been brilliant for England, I hope he will stay at Liverpool.”
Liverpool have agreed to sign James Milner from Manchester City already this summer, and Henderson has said of the news: “I’ve spoken to Milly and it’s a fantastic signing.
“His attitude on and off the field is first class. You know you’ll get energy from him. He’s a quality player.”
Liverpool can be backed at 3.75 to finish in the top four of the Premier League next season and are 21.00 to be crowned champions, with Manchester City available at 3.75.
