Ronald Koeman hopes he will be able to persuade Morgan Schneiderlin and Toby Alderweireld to remain with Southampton next season.
Chelsea have been linked with midfielder Schneiderlin, who is under contract at St Mary’s for two more seasons, but intimated his desire to leave Saints and move to Tottenham last summer.
Alderweireld is on a season-long loan at Southampton from Atletico Madrid who are keen to have him back next term.
Normally, if we play a season like we have done so far, there will be interest.
Saints possess an option to buy the 26-year-old Belgium international for about £6.8million but the Spanish side remain in pole position to bring him back if they so desire.
“It’s for the player to decide, but he’s happy at the moment,” Koeman said of Schneiderlin. “He has been surprised by how we are doing and how comfortable he is in the team.
“It will be hard to keep him. Normally, if we play a season like we have done so far, there will be interest. We know our players, we know our level and it’s a compliment for the team and for the club.
“I’m confident because Toby wants to stay. He’s been a very good part of our defence. He’s still young with a great future in front of him, he’s always good in position, very comfortable on the ball and good in his passing.
“He didn’t play a lot in Spain but now he’s playing more regularly and is developing.”
Southampton, 1.66 to finish in the top six this season, can be backed at 1.53 to beat Hull City, 2.50 to be relegated, on Saturday.
