Southampton head coach Ronald Koeman has urged his side to be more ruthless in front of goal, as the Saints aim to end a run of three games without a goal.
Koeman’s side have seen their top-four hopes hit by them taking just one point from nine in their last three Premier League games – a run which has seen them fail to find the net on all three outings.
Maybe we need to be a bit more ruthless and confident in the box.
However, former Netherlands great Koeman is not too worried by the performances of his side, but wants to see a killer touch return when Crystal Palace head to St Mary’s on Tuesday evening.
He told reporters: “It is close to being like in the beginning of the season, still we are creating, but maybe we need to be a bit more ruthless and confident in the box.
“But it is a team question, not an individual one and we need everybody to do the last part of attacking in a better way than we did in the last few games.”
Koeman went on to add that he had not predicted a top-four finish earlier on in the campaign, but he still has hopes of clinching a Champions League spot, with the Saints now sixth in the table.
He added: “I never talked of reaching Champions League football. If we win seven or eight of 11, then maybe we will be fourth in the league, but I realise it is very difficult because we have to beat some big teams and that is not easy.”
Southampton can now be backed at 7.50 to finish in the top four, with Liverpool 2.20 and Tottenham Hotspur 7.00.
