Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has confirmed that new contract talks with England international Nathaniel Clyne will take place later this week.
The 23-year-old’s current deal with Saints is set to expire in 2016 and he has been reluctant in recent weeks to start discussions about extending his stay on the south coast.
Manchester United and Chelsea are understood to be interested in signing Clyne, but Koeman is desperate to hold on to the player.
Koeman said: “The contact is between Les Reed and the agent and Clyne, but I think after Wednesday it’s a good time to talk about that – of course, we like to know what his decision is about the future.
“I hope, but I can understand if there is any interest from other clubs. We don’t have really a serious bid. It’s not I think the most difficult position.
“Normally the left-back position is more difficult to find good players. But, even the right full-back position, there are not a lot who have played on the level as Clyne has been doing this season.”
Southampton can now be backed at 7.50 to finish in the top four, with Liverpool 2.20 and Tottenham Hotspur 7.00.
