Southampton boss Ronald Koeman.

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman insists he has not ruled out a top four finish just yet.

Saints are currently sixth in the Premier League table, six points behind Manchester United in fourth with eight games remaining.

Southampton, who are 12.00 to secure a top four finish, travel to Everton on Saturday and are 2.80 to take all three points.

Koeman admits his side face a huge battle to qualify for next season’s Champions League but he feels a top four finish remains a possibility for the south coast club.

“It is difficult because of distance in points,” he told reporters on Thursday. “If we win next two or three game it is still a fight. It’s more for big teams, but we will try. We have eight finals and this season so far is fantastic and if European football then it will be a special one for the club.”

Saints have taken seven points from the last nine available ahead of their trip to Goodison Park.

Koeman’s side face Hull (h), Stoke (a), Spurs (h), Sunderland (a), Leicester (a), Aston Villa (h) and Manchester City (a) in their final seven Premier League fixtures after their clash with Everton.
