Dick Advocaat will be without Wes Brown for Sunderland’s Premier League visit to Stoke City on 25th April.
The Black Cats are without a game this weekend and it had been hoped that former Manchester United defender Brown would have recovered from his knee injury by then.
Advoccat is in dire need of Brown’s experience having watched John O’Shea and Santiago Vergini endure a torrid afternoon in Saturday’s 4-1 home loss to Crystal Palace.
Advocaat only has on-loan Liverpool defender Sebastian Coates and 19-year-old Tom Beadling in reserve, and there are fears that Brown may not play again for the club as the 35-year-old’s contract expires in the summer.
We have to do it with this squad, and we will do it with this squad.
Meanwhile, Advocaat accepts that his team lacks quality in key areas, saying: “We are not a real physical team. If you compare us with the other teams, that’s a big difference.
“In the Premier League, you need physical players as well. We have to think about that for the game with Stoke City.
“We have different type of players, who are more combination players, than with more pace. We have to find a combination to create chances and win games.
“We have to do it with this squad, and we will do it with this squad.”
Sunderland can be backed at 4.20 to beat Stoke City while a draw at the Britannia Stadium is available at 3.50.
