Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana says he is very happy the Reds have decided to stick by Brendan Rodgers and retain him as manager.

Having finished runner-up to Chelsea during the 2013/14 campaign, the Merseyside outfit struggled badly last season as they failed to qualify for the Champions League.

As well as missing out on the top four, it was another trophy-less season for Liverpool, meaning Rodgers is only the second coach in the history of the Anfield club to fail to claim silverware in his first three years in charge.

Rodgers’ inability to secure Champions League football or a trophy lead to speculation the club’s hierarchy could decide to part company with the Northern Irish coach.

However, after meeting with Liverpool’s owner John Henry and chairman Tom Werner to discuss the campaign, Rodgers has been told he is safe in his position for now, much to Lallana’s delight.

Rodgers brought Lallana to Anfield from Southampton last summer and the 27-year-old is looking forward to working with the former Swansea boss again next season.

He said: “I’m delighted that Brendan’s still here.

“In my eyes, there wasn’t really any doubt in him being here for next year, although it was an up and down season. We reached two semi-finals and, at one point, we were closing in on the top four but missed out there as well.

“We had a lot of new players and expectation was always going to be high on the back of such a promising season the previous year when Liverpool almost won the league.

“Brendan is a great coach. He is very good tactically and players are always going to get better working under him.”

Liverpool are 3.75 to finish in the Premier League’s top four next season, with Tottenham 7.00 and Everton 17.00.
