Liverpool have been hit by the news Mamadou Sakho will be out of action for three to four weeks with a hamstring injury.
The French defender was forced off in the Reds’ 1-0 win over Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup last week and now the latest scans have revealed the centre-back could be out for up to a month.
Liverpool will have to begin life without Sakho when they host Newcastle United at Anfield in the Premier League on Monday night.
Manager Brendan Rodgers won’t be able to call on the services of Martin Skrtel who is still suspended for the arrival of the Magpies.
However Emre Can is set to return from his suspension and will be available for the clash on Merseyside, as the Reds hope to close the gap on the top four, with Manchester City sat in fourth spot in the table and seven points clear of Rodgers’ men having played a game extra.
Liverpool are 1.36 to win, 5.25 to draw and 9.50 to lose to Newcastle.
