Our football props column focuses on Burnley defender James Tarkowski ahead of Monday’s Premier League clash with Everton…
“Tarkowski has managed six shots in three games already, five of them headers.”
It’s clear from watching Burnley’s games so far this season that James Tarkowski is a major threat from set pieces.
The England international defender has caused opponents plenty of problems from corners and free kicks around the box, regularly getting on the end of them with varying degrees of success.
He’s managed six shots in three games already, five of them headers.
The bet I like for this game is the 9/2 about Tarkowski managing a headed shot on target.
He’s landed this against both Brighton and Leeds so far this season and while Everton have improved a long-standing problem defending set plays of late, this still looks a big price.
The hosts have given up 37 shots in their opening three games, with several opposition defenders, including Brighton’s Shane Duffy, among those involved in creating that statistic.
Burnley have managed 35 shots of their own, not a staggering figure but still decent, especially when you consider that Spurs had only managed one more heading into this weekend’s fixtures – and they led the league at that point.
Tarkowski’s threat may be enhanced by the potential need for a reshuffle in Everton’s back line.
Seamus Coleman picked up a knock on international duty last week so there’s a chance Mason Holgate may have to be moved out of the centre to cover at right-back.
Ben Godfrey is another possible change. He proved a shrewd buy for the Toffees last season but is yet to play this term so could be rusty.
All things considered, 9/2 about Tarkowski landing this again looks worth a punt.
