Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is far from certain whether striker Diego Costa will be fit to start for the Blues against Stoke City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
The Spain international has recovered from a hamstring problem, but Mourinho is waiting to see how Costa pulls up after training on Friday, with his summer recruit having scored in each of his last two games.
He told reporters: “Diego trained yesterday and today with the group.
Diego has dedicated himself to recovering, no days off and working hard.
“He’s not injured. I don’t know if I start with him or not because, after a muscular injury and two days with the group, I need to make a decision on him.
“Diego has dedicated himself to recovering, no days off and working hard. At this moment, the muscle is fine.”
Costa is the joint leading scorer in the Premier League this season with 19 goals, the same number as Tottenham frontman Harry Kane, and can be backed at 2.87 to be the first Chelsea goalscorer on Saturday, while he is 4.00 to score the last goal of the game and 1.90 to score at any time.
Meanwhile, Mourinho is confident that winger Eden Hazard will be okay to start against the Potters, despite being tired from a midweek trip to Israel with Belgium.
He added: “It is not a surprise that he can be a bit tired. I believe in him and his ambition to play and help the team to reach the season’s objective.”
And Mourinho has also told his side to make sure of title success and says he does not care when the job is finished, as long as it comes to a successful conclusion.
The Portuguese concluded: “We need six victories and one draw from nine matches.
“It’s a good situation for us, one that every club would like to have. If we are champions on the last day, I’m more than happy with that – I’m not thinking about how or when.”
