Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini is confident that there is more to come from striker Sergio Aguero, who is poised to finish as top scorer in the Premier League this season.
The South American netted a hat-trick in the 6-0 thrashing of Queens Park Rangers to take his tally in the league this term to 25, five goals clear of Tottenham frontman Harry Kane, with Aguero having now scored eight times in his last five games.
I think he will continue improving in the future, he is just 26.
However, Pellegrini believes that there is more to come from his star striker, as he told reporters: “When I see Kun playing the way he played here I’m happy how he is improving. It is not the same Aguero that played one year ago.
“He understands he must work harder, he receives a lot more ball. He is working harder during the week. I think he will continue improving in the future, he is just 26.
“He must be a very important player in the future of this club. He is already, but I think he must continue improving in the way he plays.”
Argentinian Aguero has missed a number of games this season due to injury problems, with his 25 top-flight strikes having come in just 31 appearances.
However, Chilean Pellegrini does not feel that the absence of Aguero is the reason for his side conceding their league title to Chelsea.
He added: “You can never say that for one player that you can be closer or not close.
“It is very important for the players to be fit for whole season, but I don’t think because Kun was injured for some games we are not near Chelsea. I think there are a lot more reasons for that.”
Next up for the Citizens is a trip to Swansea next Sunday, with the visitors 1.66 to win at the Liberty Stadium, with the draw 3.80 and a Swans victory 5.00.
