Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has admitted that his side have only a ‘far’ chance of winning the Premier League title this season, following a 1-0 defeat at Burnley.

The Citizens are still five points adrift of Chelsea after going down to a George Boyd strike at Turf Moor, with the Londoners having a game in hand even after they have faced Southampton at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

We must continue to fight, but the chances of winning the title are far as things stand.

And Pellegrini, who guided City to league success last season, accepts that his club have suffered a massive blow ahead of a crucial Champions League trip to Barcelona on Wednesday.

He told City’s official website: “We must continue to fight, but the chances of winning the title are far as things stand. There is still a chance, but it is more difficult after this result.

“The issue for us at present is that we are not winning the games that we normally do, especially against teams we are expected to beat and that is because we are not scoring goals.

“We continue in second place, so we are not doing so bad. We have 27 points more (and) we must fight for to try to keep this position.

“Now our focus must turn to Wednesday night and our game against Barcelona.”

City head to the Camp Nou trailing 2-1 in their last-16 tie, having been beaten on home turf by the Catalans – with former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez scoring both goals for Barca.

The Citizens can be backed at 7.00 to win in 90 minutes in Barcelona and are 41.00 to triumph by a 2-0 scoreline, while Pellegrini’s men are 11.00 to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.
