Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has admitted Yaya Toure’s season has not been up to the same standards as the last title-winning campaign.
The Ivory Coast international has failed to reach the heights of last term, which saw him regarded as one of the best players in the Premier League.
City as a team have failed to live up to the hype this season but Toure has borne the brunt of the criticism aimed at the Citizens.
Pellegrini has admitted it has been a disappointing campaign for the Barcelona star but says he and the team are supporting the 31-year-old.
He was quoted by Sky Sports, saying: “He doesn’t need a break. For a lot of reasons he’s not the same Yaya he was last season but he continues being a very important player for our team.
“I don’t think Yaya is happy with his performance this year, and I am not happy also with his performance. But we must support him and he will return him to his normal performance.
“He’s a very important player and he will have my support until the end of the season.”
City are available at 1.083 to finish in the top four this season, with Liverpool 6.00 and Southampton 41.00.
