Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino hopes he can build a side that can challenge for a top-four spot next season.
Spurs have flattered to deceive this term and look set to have to settle for a top-six-finish once again and a place in next season’s Europa League rather than Champions League.
Spurs drew 2-2 with Pochettino’s former team Southampton on Saturday and the Argentinian accepts that his squad needs a lot of strengthening in the summer if they are to challenge the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United.
He said: “We need to prepare for a big summer, build a strong team and fight for the top four. Our dream for our supporters and this club is that they deserve to fight for the top four and be in the Champions League.
“After my experiences of last year it’s tough to play in the Europa League. I prefer to play in the Champions League but if you reach the Europa League it’s good for the club.
“If we reach the Europa League next season, we must try and do better and fight for the top four and to try and win the Europa League, but it is not my dream.”
Spurs are 1.72 to finish in the top six this season and 67.00 to win the 2015/16 Premier League title outright.
