Tim Sherwood’s Aston Villa booked their place in the FA Cup Final thanks to goals from Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph which fired them to a 2-1 win over Liverpool at Wembley. Liverpool actually went ahead through Philippe Coutinho, but the Reds couldn’t hold out in what was a poor performance overall, and Villa were able to fight back and eventually get their noses in front.
It’s Villa’s first FA Cup final for 15 years, and they have been installed as a [3.75] shot to go one step further and get past Arsenal and lift the trophy. The Gunners are big favourites for the final – they currently trade at just [1.36] to successfully defend the Cup.
In the Premier League’s early game, Man City addressed their recent slump with a comprehensive 2-0 win over West Ham at the Etihad. A goal from Sergio Aguero in addition to an own goal from James Collins was the difference between the two sides, and City are now just [1.05] to finish in the Top Four.
Something of a climb down from being joint-top on New Year’s Day, but Champions League football is important for the project at City, and so it’ll be a relief to the club to know that they are all but guaranteed to be dining at the top table again next season. Whether manager Manuel Pellegrini will still be there is another question entirely, though.
In the Premier League’s 16:00 kick off, Spurs emerged 1-3 winners over Newcastle at St James’s Park, a scoreline that was matched at [42.0] on Betfair’s Exchange. Harry Kane notched his 30th goal of the season in all competitions, and is now just [2.52] to be the Premier League’s top goal scorer, come May.
