Chelsea’s lead at the top of the Premier League table is up to six points after a home draw with Southampton, while elsewhere there were wins for Manchester United and Everton. Mike Norman has today’s In-Play odds details…
Chelsea are 1.111/9 to win the Premier League title after drawing 1-1 with Southampton at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.
The Blues were handed a huge boost going into the game when closest pursuers Manchester City suffered a shock defeat at Burnley on Saturday, meaning a win for Jose Mourinho’s men would take them eight points clear in the table with a game in hand.
And Chelsea got off to the perfect start when Diego Costa headed home a Branislav Ivanovic cross just after the 10 minute mark. The striker was scoring his first goal since January and was matched at 5.59/2 in the First Goalscorer market.
But from that point on Southampton looked the better side and deservedly drew level from the penalty spot when Dusan Tadic fired the ball home after Sadio Mane had been felled.
In a highly entertaining game both sides had chances to win but slightly surprisingly there were to be no further goals. The Draw was matched at a high of 7.87/1 In-Play with the 1-1 Correct Score being backed at 12.011/1.
Failure to take all three points means Chelsea’s nearest rivals will still retain some hope of catching the league leaders, chief among them being Man City – available at 19.5n/a in the Premier League winner market – and Arsenal, 26.025/1.
Later in the afternoon Manchester United produced one of their best performances of the season to beat Tottenham at Old Trafford.
First half goals from Marouane Fellaini (matched at 15.5n/a to score first), Michael Carrick (backed at 32.031/1 to score anytime), and Wayne Rooney gave the Red Devils a 3-0 interval lead – a scoreline that was matched at 25.024/1 in the Half Time Score market.
But despite total dominance Louis van Gaal‘s men failed to add to their tally and the game finished 3-0, a scoreline that was matched at 23.022/1.
United stay fourth in the table and can be backed at 1.865/6 to record a Top 4 Finish.
In today’s other Premier League game Everton beat Newcastle 3-0 thanks to goals from James McCarthy, Romelu Lukaku, and Ross Barkley.
The Toffees were matched at 23.022/1 to win 3-0 and McCarthy was matched at 95.094/1 to score the first goal of the game.
