West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Ben Foster faces around a month on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury during the 1-0 win over Stoke City.
The 31-year-old England international will not only miss several games for the Baggies, but has also been ruled out of the upcoming Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania and the following friendly with Italy.
It’s rotten news for Ben because he’s been so consistent.
Albion have Boaz Myhill ready to step in to fill the gap left by the loss of Foster, who had conceded just one goal in his last six appearances.
And West Brom head coach Tony Pulis is disappointed to have lost Foster, who damaged a cartilage against the Potters and had to be replaced shortly before the hour mark of the game at The Hawthorns on Saturday.
He told his club’s official website: “It’s rotten news for Ben because he’s been so consistent.
“He kept seven clean sheets in ten games, but we have a very able man to step forward in Boaz, who has performed well when he’s come into the team.
“We’ve got the international break coming up, which I hope will give our medical team the chance to work on Ben’s rehab and we will reassess later.”
Albion have enjoyed a surge in form since Pulis took charge at the turn of the year and have lost just twice in their last ten Premier League games to move eight points clear of the relegation places.
On Saturday they head to the Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City in the lunchtime kick-off, with the Citizens having won the last six meetings of the two sides.
Albion are available at 5.50 to stop that run by gaining a draw on Saturday, while they are 9.00 to keep a clean sheet and 23.00 to win the game by a 1-0 scoreline.
