West Ham defender Winston Reid is looking forward to the next part of his career after signing a new six-and-a-half-year contract at Upton Park.
The 26-year-old New Zealand international had been heavily linked with a move away from the Hammers in the summer, with Arsenal reported to be interested in signing the former FC Midtjylland stopper.
I’m very happy to be here for the next part of my career.
However, Reid, who has been with West Ham since August 2010, is happy to have pledged his long-term future to his current club.
He told the club’s official website: “It’s one of those things that took a bit of time, but we got there in the end and I’m very happy to be here for the next part of my career.
“At the end of the day, I feel comfortable here. I was speaking with the joint-chairman David Sullivan and everybody and felt like I was valued here.
“He was clearly very committed to getting the deal done and keeping me at the club.”
News of Reid’s new deal came the morning after a 1-0 defeat at Chelsea which saw the defender forced off after just eight minutes due to a hamstring problem.
However, he has time to recover before the Hammers return to action, with their next game coming on Saturday 14th Monday when they head to the Emirates Stadium to take on Arsenal.
West Ham are 1.25 to finish in the top half of the Premier League this season, with Newcastle United 2.62 and Swansea City 1.22.
